Whether you’re here for a weekend getaway or soaking up summer as a local, there’s something going on every week. From county fairs to grape stomps and live music under the Hill Country sky. Here’s your go-to guide for what not to miss this August. 137th Gillespie County Fair (Aug 21–24) The oldest county fair in Texas is back! Enjoy rides, a parade through Main Street (Aug 22), live horse racing, ag exhibits, and great food. Bring the whole family for four days of classic summer fun. Becker Vineyards Grape Stomp (Aug 30–31) Celebrate harvest season by stomping grapes barefoot, sipping wine, and touring the beautiful vineyards. This free event is first-come, first-stomp! Fredericksburg Peach & Balloon Festival (Aug 30) Float above the Hill Country in a tethered hot air balloon, sample local peaches and wine, and enjoy live music. A dreamy, end-of-summer celebration. August is also peach season, so check out local orchards for picking or picnicking. Hike Enchanted Rock, float the Guadalupe River, or catch the incredible bat emergence at Old Tunnel State Park just before sunset. Jenschke Orchards Pick‑your‑own available with reservations (tickets around $5/person; fruit $2.50/lb). Family-run since 1961, with 20 peach varieties and over 3,000 trees.
